A Venous Access Device, commonly called port, is a central venous line placed into a large vein. This is essential for cancer patients requiring prolonged intravenous medication and certain chemotherapeutic agents. A port can provide repeated medication delivery, allowing patients to avoid frequent injections. Insertion of a port line typically costs around Rs. 90,000 in corporate hospitals. However, at Cancare Foundation, the entire procedure costs less than Rs. 50,000. So far, 98 patients have benefited, with 50 receiving the procedure for free, while 48 paid for operation theater and pharmacy charges, with Cancare providing the port line. Achaani collaborates with Cancare by funding the purchase of ports for poor cancer patients.
